No cutting is required for installation. Power gains are huge on both stock turbo and upgraded turbo setups. Drastic drop in intake temperature relieves the engine of constant heatsoaking condition that robs the car of its power. By lowering the peak operating charge temp by over 30 degrees, this intercooler upgrade kit allows the car to operate at full power freely and consistently without holding back when the engine gets warm. The reduction in charge temp also reduces the changes of engine knock. The Garrett GT core also removes a flow-through bottleneck that is inherent in the factory top-mounted intercooler which hinders peak HP. This FMIC upgrade is one of the simplest ways to increase both HP and reliability on the MazdaSpeed3 engine.

The easy to install turbo assembly that takes only takes 1-2 hours to install. Replaces the small, stock journal bearing VFXX turbo. This is made possible by the special high flowing GT inspired exhaust housing and custom engineered components built to suit the installation.
Each GT drop-in turbo package consists of a Garrett factory assembled and high speed balanced dual ball bearing turbo cartridge which is then assembled into a set of CNC machine ported housings that have been optimized in every aspect for maximum flow and efficiency.

Everything has been designed to properly and seamlessly graph the Garrett GT turbo to the EJ engine so that the fit is as OE as possible.
Just bolt the turbo on, add fueling and a good tune then prepare for a blast of acceleration. Garrett GT turbos offer more then just "peak HP" numbers. These genuine Garrett GT turbos off more torque area under the curve and more "accessible" power then any other turbos series out there.
The Garrett GT2871R is a great match on the 2.5L, especially if you're looking for boost threshold that is close to stock but want enough airflow for 400+HP. Almost all the boost is available all the time even at part to medium throttle. Boost recovery between gearshifts is awesome with full boost ready even before upshift is complete. resulting in the STI lurching forward with shear enthusiasm. The 2.0L driver should not rule out the use GT2871R if his HP target is in the same range. The modern generation wheels, coupled with an awesome wheel ratio, allows even the smaller displacement engine to provide adequate motivation to get the GT2871R going for an great powerband. The competition grade turbo still offers the best response and spool time out of any unit in this flow range.
Upgrading to a good flowing bellmouth downpipe and a high flowing inlet intake pipe will result in maximum output. channel air in and out of the turbo. Although every bolt-on GT turbo kit ships with a 3" inlet, we do provide a "stepdown" transition sleeve just in case you're forced to use the stock 2.25" inlet hose. But again, upgraded intake & downpipe will provide more maximize HP & boost response. Please also be aware that some downpipes such as the stock catted downpipe, has a "no-flow" door at the wastegate flapper area. This type of downpipe may not allow the wider swinging wastegate valve to open all the way, thus causing the possibility of a "boost-creep" condition. Again, a performance downpipe will perform better & stop this from happening.

The 2.0L driver should not rule out the use GT28RS if his HP target is in the same range. The modern generation wheels, coupled with an awesome wheel ratio, allows even the smaller displacement engine to provide adequate motivation to get the GT28RS going for an great powerband. The competition grade turbo still offers the best response and spool time out of any unit in this flow range.
Upgrading to a good flowing bellmouth downpipe and a high flowing inlet intake pipe will result in maximum output. channel air in and out of the turbo. Although every bolt-on GT turbo kit ships with a 3" inlet, we do provide a "stepdown" transition sleeve just in case you're forced to use the stock 2.25" inlet hose. But again, upgraded intake & downpipe will provide more maximize HP & boost response. Please also be aware that some downpipes such as the stock catted downpipe, has a "no-flow" door at the wastegate flapper area. This type of downpipe may not allow the wider swinging wastegate valve to open all the way, thus causing the possibility of a "boost-creep" condition. Again, a performance downpipe will perform better & stop this from happening.

This turbo is capable of about 525 HP. Brand New Authentic Garrett Dual Ball Bearing GT30R Turbo assembly with you pick of exhaust (turbine) housing & A/R. This turbo is available with a variety of different turbine housings to fit many applications & configurations. Pick from T25 plus, T3 divided, T3 undivided, T4 divided, T4 undivided or Tial stainless steel housings.
Anti-Surge style compressor housing with 4.00" inlet and 2.00" outlet. This turbo would be comparable to the HKS GT3037. The GT30R / GT3076R turbine housings with 4 bolt exit are made out of ductile Ni-Resist iron (has a nickel content of about 38%). This material is much better at withstanding high exhaust gas temperatures than regular cast iron. The turbine wheel is inconnel 713 and is good for up to 1700 degrees fahrenheit. You'll make a lot more power with this turbo than most turbos comparable.

Upgrading to a good flowing bellmouth downpipe and a high flowing inlet intake pipe will result in maximum output. channel air in and out of the turbo. Although every bolt-on GT turbo kit ships with a 3" inlet, we do provide a "stepdown" transition sleeve just in case you're forced to use the stock 2.25" inlet hose. But again, upgraded intake & downpipe will provide more maximize HP & boost response. Please also be aware that some downpipes such as the stock catted downpipe, has a "no-flow" door at the wastegate flapper area. This type of downpipe may not allow the wider swinging wastegate valve to open all the way, thus causing the possibility of a "boost-creep" condition. Again, a performance downpipe will perform better & stop this from happening.

Garrett GT42R Turbo (aka GT4294R )
The big boys!--- This turbo is capable of 850 HP. Brand new & authentic Garrett GT42R (GT4294R) dual ball bearing turbo assembly. Your pick of exhaust housing with options that include T4 with 4" V-band discharge or large T6 with 5.00" V-band discharge. Also now available with the Tial stainless steel V-band inlet & outlet exhaust housing. 33% lighter!! Comes with a ported compressor housing with 5" Inlet with 3.5" V-band outlet. If big drag racing HP is what you're after, the GT42 large frame turbos are here to get the job done.
